Frequently Asked Questions

Why soy wax?

Made from soybean oil it’s natural, renewable, non-toxic and biodegradable. It naturally has an off-white appearance and as a lower melting point than paraffin. It tends to burn longer and at a cooler temperature than paraffin wax. Paraffin wax is a petroleum by-product, the Environmental Protection Agency says that paraffin wax is harmful when burned and contains toxins.

Are your candles vegan?

Yes. Midheaven Candles uses 100% soybean oil.

Do you use essential oils in your candles?

Yes. We use everything from citrus oil and fir to smoke and patchouli!

Can the jar be repurposed?

Yes. Soy wax can be cleaned out with soap and water and the containers can be re-used with your imagination — perhaps you needed a container to hold some hair ties or cotton swabs. They could even be used as a small planter!

How fragrant are your candles?

We have received feedback from our customers that even just taking the lid off makes the room smell good.

How long will your candles burn?

How long a soy candle burns varies depending on the size:

  • Tealights: 7+ hours each
  • Small Metal Tin (3 oz.): 20+ hours
  • Large Metal Tin (6 oz.): 40+ hours
  • Small Glass Jar (5 oz.): 40+ hours
  • Large Glass Jar (9 oz.): 50+ hours

All burn times listed above are approximations.

What kind of wax and wick do you use?

At Midheaven, we use soy wax and 100% cotton wicks.

Why is there sometimes “frost” in/on my soy candle?

Occasionally frost can occur in soy wax. Frost is caused by the growth of tiny crystals on the surface of the wax. All soy wax will frost over time, but luckily frosting is solely an aesthetic issue and does not affect the way your candle burns or smells.

How do I clean soy wax?

Soy wax is typically easier to clean than paraffin wax. Thankfully, it’s very forgiving and washes away with just simple soap and water. This is true for the containers that the candles come in and for any accidental spills on the floor or furniture.

Why is my soy candle turning yellow?

There are a few reasons that a soy candle might discolor. Some added scents contain essentials oils that are known to cause discoloration, Vanilla and citrus are common ones. Direct sunlight and strong or fluorescent lighting can also effect the color. However, most people will burn their candle before it yellows and the discoloration has no effect on the burn time or quality.
